Pregnancy

Garbha Sanskar

A calm, caring pregnancy.

Like tending a lamp in a quiet room: a steady, peaceful setting helps the flame burn bright.

Garbha Sanskar is India's tradition of caring for the mind and spirit during pregnancy. We focus on the parts modern care also supports: low stress, healthy routines, bonding with the baby and strong family support.

Why it matters

  • Long-term high stress in pregnancy is linked with poorer outcomes for mother and baby.
  • From around 18–20 weeks babies hear sounds, and after birth they recognise their mother's voice.
  • Family support during pregnancy lowers the risk of maternal depression.

Key practices

  • Talk, sing, read or play gentle music for the baby every day.
  • Practise slow breathing, meditation or prayer to stay calm.
  • Do prenatal yoga or daily walks, only with your doctor's approval.
  • Keep regular sleep and meal times, with fresh, home-cooked food.
  • Involve the father and family: share joy, not pressure.
